Pinterest character limits
| Pin title | Up to 100 characters. Only the start shows in the feed, so put the keyword first. |
| Description | Up to 500 characters. Say what people get, with one or two related keywords. |
| Alt text | Up to 500 characters. Describes the image for screen readers - Pinterest reads it too. |
| Board name | Up to 50 characters. |
What the SEO checker looks at
- Keyword placement - in the title (near the start), the description and the alt text.
- Length - every field within Pinterest’s limits, and long enough to say something.
- Hashtags - Pinterest ranks on keywords, so a few hashtags at the end is plenty.
- Readability - no shouting in capitals, and none of the words that make text sound machine-written.
Not sure which keyword to use? Find it with the Pinterest keyword tool, or let the title and description generator write the pin for you.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a Pinterest title be?
Up to 100 characters. Only the first part shows next to the image in the feed, so put your main keyword near the start.
How long should a Pinterest description be?
Pinterest allows up to 500 characters. Aim for a few clear sentences that say what people get, with one or two related keywords.
Do hashtags help on Pinterest?
Only a little. Pinterest finds pins mainly through the keywords in the title and description, so a few relevant hashtags at the end is plenty.
What is alt text on Pinterest?
A short description of the image for people who use screen readers. Pinterest reads it too, so describe what the image shows and mention the keyword only if it fits.
Is my text saved anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser - nothing you type or upload is sent to us.
